Windows Vista SP1…Hmmm…Not Bad, not bad at all.
I have been reluctant to install Windows Vista SP1 for obvious reasons. There have been numerous horror stories of repeated reboots, drives being wiped, the earth opening up and swallowing whole towns, dogs and cats living together etc. etc. etc…
After an hour or so to install SP1 and about 15 mins to download the 434mb Service Pack, I took the plunge, after backing up my system of course. I am very happy to report all is well and my town is safe.
To be honest, all is better than well…the notebook just plain flat out flies now. In order for me to paint the proper perspective, my notebook’s specs include a 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM and a 5400 rpm drive. Not slow notebook by any means.
My biggest complaint before the installation of SP1 was that any accesses to the hard drive whether it was saving a document to a folder, opening up my computer, saving a file to the desktop after a download, caused my system to pause for 20-30 secs before the save initiated or the drive location opened up for view. Now it is near instantaneous. I dare say it is faster than performing the same functions under Windows XP. When I get some time as I play with my notebook with SP1 installed, I will post any results or peculiarities.
So far so good…
